Publish your first book
From typing the ISBN to a finished book waiting for review.
11 steps
Click Studio in the left menu. This is where all your books live. The first time you come here it is empty and shows Publish your Books with a Get Started button.
If you see Role Required instead, your publisher application has not been approved yet. Nothing is broken — see What happens next.
Click Create new at the top right and choose Digital NFB. That is the ordinary e-book. (Rare NFB is marked Soon and cannot be chosen yet.)
A form opens with four steps along the top:
- Book Details — what the book is
- Content — the cover and the file
- Pricing & Chain — money and who gets paid
- Review — check and send
Move with Continue and Back. If you have to stop at any point, use Save as Draft on the last step — the book waits for you in Studio.
The very first field is the ISBN. Type it in and then wait a second without clicking anything.
We look the book up in the public catalogues and fill in the title, author, description, page count — and very often the cover image too. You will see Looking up ISBN…, then a line telling you which fields were filled.
This is the single biggest time-saver in the form. Use it even if you are only half sure the book is catalogued.
Three messages you might see instead:
- No book found for this ISBN — the book is not in the public catalogues. Very common for new or local titles. Type the details in yourself and carry on; nothing is wrong.
- Invalid ISBN checksum — a digit has been mistyped. Check it against the copyright page.
- A book with this ISBN is already published — it is already on the platform and cannot be added twice.
Read what the lookup filled in and correct anything wrong — catalogue data is not always tidy. The form will not let you continue without Title, Description and Category.
- Author(s) — type a name and press Enter. Each name becomes a small chip you can remove with the ×. Add one chip per author; do not put two names in one chip.
- Publisher / Imprint — already filled with your name.
- Description — this is the blurb readers decide on. Worth a minute of your attention even when the lookup filled it.
- Category and Language — choose from the lists.
- Page Count, Edition and Publication Date — not required, but readers look at them and they take seconds.
A cover is required. If the ISBN lookup already found one, you can keep it or replace it with your own artwork — and your own artwork is almost always better, because catalogue covers are often small and washed out.
- Best size: 1400 × 2100 pixels — the usual tall book shape
- JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF
- Up to 10 MB
This is the first thing a reader sees. Use the print-ready artwork, not a photograph of the printed book.
Click the box and choose your file. EPUB and PDF are both accepted — one file per book, up to 500 MB.
The file is locked before it is stored, so nobody can lift a copy of it. A reader who buys the book opens it in the nft chain mobile app with their own account, and nowhere else.
The status line under the box changes from Will be encrypted when you save to a confirmation once the file is safely stored.
- Price — required. For example 9.99. Two decimal places at most.
- Currency — choose from the currencies your selected network supports.
- Max Supply — required. The total number of copies you are willing to sell, from 1 to 10,000.
Think about max supply before you type it. When the last copy sells, the book is sold out and no more can be made. For an ordinary title, pick a number you are confident you will not reach — many publishers simply use 10,000. Save the small numbers for editions you deliberately want to be limited.
This is where you say who receives money when a copy sells. The first row is you, the publisher, and it cannot be removed.
Add a row for each other person — an author, a translator, an illustrator — with their wallet address and their percentage. The header keeps a running total, like Total: 15% / 20%. Everything you hand out here can add up to at most 20%.
If you have published before, last time's split is already filled in, so a series takes seconds.
Sale Start and Sale End are both optional. Most books need neither.
- Leave both empty — the book goes on sale the moment you publish it.
- Set a start date for a launch day. The book is visible beforehand but cannot be bought until the date arrives.
- Set an end date for a limited campaign. When it passes, the book stops selling by itself.
You can change both dates later, at any time.
At the bottom of this step you choose which network the book is registered on. If you have no preference, leave the one already selected. It makes no difference to how you or your readers use the platform.
One thing to note: changing the network resets the currency. So pick the network first and set the price afterwards.
The last step shows a summary and a Submission Checklist with a tick beside everything that is done. Two buttons:
- Save as Draft — keeps the book for later. Nobody else sees it. Use this whenever you have to stop.
- Submit for Review — sends it to our team.
If Submit for Review does not work, a red bar names the one thing that is missing — "Add a cover image", say, or "Enter a max supply (1–10,000)". Fix it and the button comes alive. Every one of those messages is listed with its fix in Troubleshooting.
Next: After you submit.
