Getting started

Open an account in two minutes and learn where everything is.

5 steps

nft chain is a bookshop where publishers sell directly to readers. You upload a book once and set its price. Readers buy it here, and the money reaches you without a distributor in between.

Two things work differently from a normal e-book shop:

  • Every copy has an owner. A copy is registered to the reader who bought it, so it cannot be passed around freely.
  • You decide how many copies exist. You can sell an unlimited-feeling 10,000, or make a numbered edition of 200.

Everything else is ordinary work: fill in the book details, upload the file, set a price. This guide shows you which button to press at each stage, in the order you will need them.

This takes about two minutes and costs nothing.

  1. Click the orange Connect button at the top right of the page.
  2. A small window opens with a few options. Click email — it is the simplest one, and the one we recommend.
  3. Type your email address and continue.
  4. We send you a six-digit code by email. Type that code into the window.

The window closes and your account is ready. You can tell it worked because the Connect button at the top right has been replaced by your profile picture.

Next time you visit, you sign in the same way: Connect, your email address, the code.

Tip:Use a company address you will still have in five years, and one you actually read. This is the only way back into your account, and it is where we write to you about your books.

When you open your account, a wallet is created for you automatically. You do not have to install anything, buy anything, or set anything up.

Think of it as the safe attached to your account. It holds the books you own and the money you earn from sales.

From time to time — when you publish a book, or change a price — a small window will appear asking you to approve what you are about to do. That is your wallet asking "are you sure?". Read the window, then click the approve button. Nothing happens until you do.

If you already use a crypto wallet and would rather sign in with it, choose wallet instead of email on the sign-in screen. If that sentence means nothing to you, ignore it — email is the right choice.

To find it, put money in it, or check what is in it, see Your wallet.

  1. Nobody from nft chain will ever ask you for a code, a password, or a recovery phrase. Anyone who does is trying to rob you, however convincing they sound.
  2. Type the address of the site yourself, or use your own bookmark. Do not sign in through a link someone sent you.
  3. Read every approval window before you click approve. If you did not start the action yourself, close the window.
  4. Never share your login with a colleague. If your staff need to work on your books, give them their own access instead — see Team access.
Important:If you think someone else has got into your account, write to [email protected] immediately. The sooner you tell us, the more we can do.

The narrow strip of icons down the left edge of the screen is the main menu. Rest your mouse on it and it slides open to show the names. On a phone or tablet the menu sits along the bottom instead, with the rest under More.

  • Discover — the home page. This is what readers see first.
  • Authors & Publishers — every publisher on the platform. Your own page will appear here once you are approved.
  • Activity — what has happened lately: new books, sales, transfers.
  • Apply — the publisher application form. Once you are approved this is replaced by Studio.
  • Studio — your workroom: add books, set prices, publish.
  • Profile — your public page, as readers see it.
  • Settings — your logo, description, links, and team.
  • How To? — this guide. It is always in the menu.
Tip:There is a search box at the top of every page. Press the / key to jump straight into it.
